Cooling Foods to Hydrate the Body, Fredericksburg

With the high temperatures this week, it's even more important to pay attention to your hydration levels but is there a way to use food to cool the body?  

Of course!

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, a practice that's over 6,000 years old, there are certain foods that cool the body.  These foods include melons, cucumbers, and mint.  Salad greens such as romaine and butter leaf also help to cool the body.  

An easy way to add some of these foods is to make a pitcher of cucumber, mint, lime water and drink it throughout the day.  Using melon as part of a post-workout recovery is another way to cool the body.  A stir fry or curry with broccoli, spinach, fennel and button mushrooms, with chili pepper, turmeric and cumin is a powerful meal that contains not only cooling vegetables and spices but an incredible taste.  Adding the protein of your choice to the meal will aid in recovery from the tough WODs at the gym.
