Hey guys! So you may keep hearing your coaches and other CrossFitters saying things like “The Open is just around the corner” or “Well in Open WOD 1…” or “I love the Open” and we have realized that a lot of people may not know what “The Open” is. Simply put, the Open is the first step in getting to the CrossFit Games.
For those of you who know what the CrossFit Games are like you may be saying to yourself ”HOLD UP, I have no business in a competition that leads to the Games.” And I am here to tell you that is beyond 100% FALSE!
Last year 70,000 people competed in the CrossFit Games Open and I PROMISE YOU their goals were NOT to get to the Games.
The Open lasts for 5 weeks, and during those 5 weeks you will push yourself harder than you ever have before. Every Wednesday beginning March 6 (until April 3) a WOD will be released that must be completed by Sunday. Every Saturday, RARE CrossFit and CrossFit Forward will be getting together (much like the Throwdown, except only ONE workout) to complete these workouts. If you loved the Throwdown, we PROMISE you will LOVE LOVE LOVE the Open!
This year we are expecting even more people to participate to the Open, and at RARE we’ve decided to change it up a little bit by offering our own scaled division. Rather than registering and paying through the official CrossFit Games website, you will be registering at RARE CrossFit and when workouts are released on Wednesday we will release the scaled option by Thursday at 7:00PM. The same day that registration begins online (January 30) – you will be able to register at RARE if you think you will need to enter the scaled division.
Don’t you think this would be an AWESOME time to wear your *new competitors shirt* We will stop taking orders THIS Friday, February 1st so that we can make sure to have them in time for the Open. Don’t miss out on this one time offer!!
Whether you decide to do the Open RX’ed or scaled we CAN NOT wait for five weeks of fun with our local CrossFit Community! As always, ask any coach specific questions you may have– or even better post it in the comments below (chances are that most people have the same question!)
